Le chat

Je souhaite dans ma maison :
Une femme ayant sa raison,
Un chat passant parmi les livres,
Des amis en toute saison
Sans lesquels je ne peux pas vivre.

This charming verse, isn't it a variation on the famous epigram by Martialis about 'the good life': Ad seipsum ?
   Vitam quae faciant beatiorem,
   Iucundissime Martialis, haec sunt.
cf. the presence of friends (pares amici; Convictus facilis..) and a sensible wife (Non tristis torus) and the nice turn at the ending of the wishlist:
   Quod sis, esse velis nihilque malis;
   Summum nec metuas diem nec optes.
